It’s a New Year, why not start it off with a new smile!? Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you – whether in person or on Zoom – and if you’re not happy with your smile, Porcelain Veneers may be a great option for you. Veneers are made of a strong but thin and esthetic material and are bonded to the front surfaces of teeth to improve their appearance. They are artistically shaped, both to fit the underlying tooth and to help give the patient the smile of her/his dreams. The use of veneers is a very popular cosmetic dental treatment, as it can be accomplished in a rather short period of time (one to weeks from temporary veneers to “permanent” veneers) involving just a few appointments. Additionally, with the help of digital photos, impressions, and wax prototypes, the result can be very predictable.
Porcelain Veneers can also be used to correct a variety of dental problems, including severely discolored teeth, chipped or cracked teeth, and even crooked and misaligned teeth. One of the biggest benefits of porcelain veneers is their durability. Here at ClevelandSmiles, we have patients who have had them more than 20 years with little to no changes. (A returning patient was proud to show us her smile that we helped her achieve over 25 years ago; when we asked her how she could be so sure, she answered that she had them done for her daughter’s wedding, and her daughter and husband just celebrated their 25th anniversary). They are also resistant to staining, similar to a piece of china, which allows the teeth to look their best for many years.
If you or a family member are considering Porcelain Veneers, we can first evaluate the teeth and surrounding tissues to ensure that they are “candidates” for the veneer treatment. If they are, digital impressions (no “goop”) are made to study the arrangement/position of the teeth. A digital wax-up and preparation guide are fabricated to ensure that the patient – and dentist – can visualize the final outcome and that the veneers fit the teeth exquisitely. The veneers are then fabricated with the help of an artist at the dental laboratory. In the dental operatory, the veneers are tried on and then bonded to the teeth with a very strong adhesive; at this stage, small modifications – if necessary – can be made to idealize the bite and appearance so that they look perfect!
As can be seen, Porcelain Veneers may be the answer to having a beautiful smile, for those unhappy with their appearance or those who just want to look better. They can correct a wide variety of dental problems and give you the look you’ve always wanted.
