One of the most common problems that we see in cosmetic dental practices is space between teeth. In back teeth, it often results in a food trap (which does encourage flossing:), while in front teeth, it may also catch debris, while being less than esthetic. Fortunately, we have a number of ways to close those anterior teeth in an esthetic manner – without involving orthodontics.
Bonding involves using composite materials to add everything from a corner of a tooth to a large surface. In a single appointment, in an hour or so – often without anesthetic – bonding agent is applied to a tooth or teeth, followed by a composite. A space can be closed as well as maintaining correct proportions and symmetry.
Spaces can also be closed with porcelain veneers or crowns when there is a need for greater strength, support, and long-term cosmetics. With either material, there are many choices of shades, depending upon what the patient would like to achieve and what the rest of the teeth look like.
Here at ClevelandSmiles, we see lots of patients with spaces, both large and small. Please give our office a call at 440-461-1003, and we’ll be glad to see how we can help!
